Seared Scallops with Cannellini Beans, Spinach, and Bacon

When we first moved to Colorado, we lived with my sister-in-law for a bit while we looked for a place. I discovered Pinterest at this time, and it quickly became a borderline obsession for me. As a newlywed, I was so looking forward to having our own space again, and planning all of the things I would cook from Pinterest while wearing clothes inspired by outfits on Pinterest in our cute new place that was decorated a la Pinterest. This dish was one of the first things I pinned

Best Ever Meatloaf

I do not like meatloaf. I never really have. The texture is often weird, and in my house it seemed to be a catch all for any on-the-verge-of-expired food (I’m looking at you, dad).  I mean, even the name is kinda gross to me. Meat. Loaf. Blech. The Hubs, on the other hand, loves meatloaf.

She-Crab Soup

Once upon a time, I lived in Virginia Beach. Lovely place. Best part? You could find she-crab soup on most restaurant menus. This soup is my liquid soul mate. It’s rich and creamy,

Baked Chicken Tenders

In the spirit of helping out with those New Year’s weight loss resolutions, I’m sharing an easy way to speed up healthy lunches, or dinners for those busy weeknights. I’m sure you are all familiar with the concept of “meal prepping.” I am on board with the theory, and if you are happy eating the same thing every day, then good for you! Red Beans and Rice

We had two Thanksgiving meals this year, and as much as I love Thanksgiving leftovers, I am turkey-ed out! I wanted something hearty but decently healthy, and I wasn’t in the mood for heavy cooking since I needed to go grocery shopping

Alfredo Sauce

I love the holidays, and I love the movie “The Holiday.” I love the scene where the characters curl up next to a warm fire with “Christmas Fettuccine.” For me, there are few things more comforting than a big bowl of creamy, cheesy, pasta. The fact that it comes together quickly is a huge bonus. This dish is perfect for the end of a long day, snuggled on the couch with your loved ones.

Braised Pork Shoulder Ragu

You may or may not know that I used to live in San Diego. When the Hubs (then just the boyfriend) and I first moved in together, we moved into a cute 2 bedroom in the Little Italy district. The Italian food there ranges from kitschy to authentic, but it was pretty much all delicious, depending on what you happened to be in the mood for. And being able to pop down the street for pizza/wine/gelato in the evening was a definite bonus.

Fall Salad

I don’t know about you, but at my house, the second the leaves start to turn, it is officially time for comfort food! I love fall flavors! Chicken pot pie, pot roast, anything in a crock pot…basically if it has the word pot in it, I’m on board. Unless pot is followed by the word brownie, in which case I’ll pass. My teenage self would be so disappointed.

How to Get a Proper Sear

Properly searing meat. This is a basic kitchen skill that will really elevate your proteins. It isn’t hard to do, but it does take some patience. Here are the keys to getting a gorgeous (yes, I really do think it’s gorgeous) sear: 1. have a dry surface on your protein, and 2. have a screaming hot pan. Let’s take a closer look.
